The show maintains the book’s main narrative but adds a broader frame, using the image of Srebrenica’s flower makers - portrayed by a chorus of women from conflict-torn regions - to connect the genocide to recent conflicts, play with different theatrical practices and give a message of resilience.
The book’s original illustrations by David Frankum are incorporated through projection mapping.

THE FLOWERS OF SREBRENICA
A stage adaptation of the poetic novel "The Flowers of Srebrenica" by Aidan Hehir.
An Irishman’s road trip from Sarajevo to the Srebrenica genocide memorial centre in the company of a taciturn Bosnian provides a reflection on human connections, civilisation's fragility, the West's perspective on distant conflicts and our implicit responsibilities.
